SPECIAL EVENTS IN LENT & HOLY WEEK 2018

 

Unless otherwise noted, all events take place at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church of Savannah

 

FEBRUARY 14 – ASH WEDNESDAY*

  • 6:30 AM       Morning Prayer

  • 7:00 AM       Imposition of Ashes & Holy Communion

  • 5:30 PM       Evening Prayer

  • 6:00 PM       Choral Imposition of Ashes & Holy Communion

 

FEBRUARY 21 - MARCH 21 - LENTEN BIBLE STUDY: "WALKING THE PASSION II"

 

Every Wednesday between Ash Wednesday and Holy Week, will hold Suppers and Bible Study after the  Eucharist.  “Walking the Passion II,"  an in-depth study of the Passion of Jesus Christ in the Gospel According to St. Mark. We will use the ancient prayer practices of Lectio Divina and The Stations of the Cross to enter into the story from the perspectives of different characters.

  • 5:30 PM      Evening Prayer

  • 6:00 PM      Holy Eucharist

  • 6:30 PM      Supper and Study in Toomer-Walker Hall

 

MARCH 3 - LENTEN QUIET DAY: THE GRACE OF OUR LIMITS

 

Set aside some time this Lent for quiet meditation and prayer. The main presenter is the Rev. Johnny Tuttle, Rector of the Episcopal Church of St. John & St. Mark in Albany, GA. This event is sponsored by the Our Lady of Walsingham Chapter of the Daughters of the King at the Collegiate Church of St. Paul the Apostle in Savannah, GA.

MARCH 9-10 - LENTEN PRAYER RETREAT

 

The Rev. Guillermo Arboleda, Mrs. Mary Lynne Kemp, the Rev. Hunt Priest (St. Peter’s, Savannah), and the Rev. Kelly Steele (Epiphany, Savannah) will lead a quiet retreat on prayer practices and spiritual disciplines. MARCH 27 – TUESDAY IN HOLY WEEK

  • 5:30 PM       Evening Prayer, the Great Litany and  Holy Eucharist

 

MARCH 28– WEDNESDAY IN HOLY WEEK

  • 5:30 PM       Evening Prayer, the Great Litany and Holy Eucharist

 

MARCH 29 – MAUNDY THURSDAY (Toomer-Walker Parish Hall)

  • 5:30 PM        Evening Prayer, the Great Litany and Holy Eucharist with Foot Washing       Followed by an Agape Meal and the Stripping of the Altar

 

MARCH 30 – GOOD FRIDAY

 

MARCH 31– HOLY SATURDAY

  • 9:30 AM        Morning Prayer, the Great Litany and the Liturgy of Holy Saturday

 

APRIL 1– THE RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST: EASTER DAY

  • 6:00 AM        Easter Sunrise Service @ Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church                

An ecumenical service together with Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church, First Congregational Church, and Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. Fr. Guillermo A. Arboleda is to preach. Breakfast to follow.

  • 7:30 AM       Morning Prayer

  • 8:00 AM       Holy Eucharist

  • 10:00 AM     Choral Holy  Eucharist with Children's Speeches

 

*Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and other weekdays in Lent and Holy Week are traditionally “observed by special acts of discipline and self-denial” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 17). The details of these devotions are left to the individual’s conscience. We recommend consulting a spiritual director and/or a wise and thoughtful priest in crafting your Lenten discipline.
